Maryland Patio Design and Installation

Summer might be winding down, but things are starting to heat up in the back yard. As the crisp air sets in and the leaves change color, families and friends enjoy gathering by a toasty fire. Presentation is everything when it comes to enjoying S’mores and hot cider in your outdoor enclave, so we are sharing five awesome landscape ideas beyond the basic fire pit.

Make an entrance.

It’s better than a red carpet. Building a beautiful brick or stone walkway leading to a stone fire pit can be just the thing to enhance your backyard setting. Trim your walkway with brick or stone of a lighter shade to help offset the dominant color and create a more striking look. Build a circular stone fire it or build a taller fire pit that will be a conversation piece as friends and family gather. Accentuate with deck chairs or take it a step further and create stone or brick seating.

Get decked out.

Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the summer feel of a deck as you wind down by the fire. Be creative with where you build the deck and the colors and styles of wood you choose. Don’t be afraid to go with a simple pattern to create a bit of extra flare.

Get into the swing of things.

The only thing better than sitting by the fire is gently swinging as you bask in its warmth. Wooden pergolas with large hanging swings create a relaxing and inviting setting in any backyard. A few strategically placed mums and you’re good to go!

Let your colors burst.

Want to create a look that is functional and aesthetically pleasing AND eliminates the smoky smell of the fire? Try out the ever so stylish fire glass. Available in an array of colors, this tempered glass is sure to garner plenty of ‘oohs and aahs.’ Manufactured from recycled glass, fire glass is specially treated so it should not melt, soot or explode. You will need a fuel line that runs to your tabletop fire place.

Put a ring around it.

Whether the ring is perfectly placed large pieces of stone, thousands of pebbles, mulch or even sand to create a beach-like ambiance, consider encircling your outdoor fire pit. Creating this additional ring as opposed to leaving a simple grass surface will also keep mud from splashing on your furniture when it rains.
